Tell us about your family:
My husband Todd and I have been married for three years. He grew up in Maryland and I grew up on Long Island. Todd works in finance and I work as a behavioral analyst and with autistic children. While COVID was locking down New York City, we were packing and moving to Rye. We have family here in town and had been waiting for a little baby on the way for it to be the right time to make the move to the suburbs. After countless doctors appointments and drives in and out of the city, our sweet little Evan Donald Ulrich was born on May 24, 2020 at Mount Sinai West. Our happiest day yet! Evan is named after my father, Donald, who passed away last year. What was it like having a baby in 2020? Any particular challenges? Joys?
Having a baby in 2020 had its challenging moments. We certainly found the silver lining in a lot of those challenges. After some back and forth we were lucky to have Todd allowed in the delivery room. When we moved from the city to Rye, my mother came and stayed with us for about four months so we could all quarantine together. I was sad to not have my mother there in the hospital but she was right there to greet us when we returned home to Rye. I did miss out on family and friends visiting but, in the end, I probably saw more of their faces on FaceTime than ever before. I’ve also never had people be so nice and thoughtful! Offering seats on the subway, holding doors, asking how I was doing all the time. What has 2020 taught you?
Wow between becoming a mom and COVID I learned so much over this past year! I tried to learn how to roll with the punches and accept what comes our way. I’m still working on that! I quickly learned how valuable family time is and cherished every moment my husband and I could be home with Evan. I realize we may never have this uninterrupted time with Evan again. It’s so great being home with him and I feel fortunate to be taking a pause in my career right now. Anything else you'd like to share? For Evan’s arrival home, our neighbors on Hillside Place lined the streets with blue balloons and decorated our front door with sweet messages. We were so touched by the kindness and support that surrounded us. We immediately felt this street was our home. I couldn’t be happier with our move and life here in Rye. I look forward to making more mom friends, family friends and laying down our roots here!
