Mommy and Me with Margaret

Mom-focused private in-home fitness studio

How would you describe your work?

I offer personalized Mom-only and Mommy and Me private fitness sessions. 1-4 adults, with or without kids. While some of our sessions include children, the focus of all of our sessions is on the MOM. The children see this as playtime while the caregiver strengthens their body. When toddlers join we use toys, play freeze dance, count 123s, recite the ABCs, and sing Wheels on the Bus, among many other things. Every session ends with a bubble-filled meditation and stickers. Our small group setting provides personalized attention for all experience levels and abilities. I tailor all my sessions to the clients’ needs.

How did you get involved with your current work?

In March of 2020, like many of us, I was home for months with my toddler (and baby). In

between teaching Zoom pilates classes, I tried to get personal workouts in for myself. The difficulty to get a workout in with my toddler around led to the creation of my Mommy and Me classes. What began on Zoom transitioned years later to in-person Mommy and Me Pilates, and then grew to add Strength, Barre and CardioStrength options as well. The focus of my business is on the…MOM. I provide an actual workout for the caregiver while keeping the child active and engaged.

What did you have to do to start?

I had been teaching my Mommy and Me classes in homes and at the library. With my youngest starting school and joining his sisters at Resurrection in Rye, I had the bandwidth to embark on the next step and create my own studio. We had the perfect space in our home, and with my husband’s expertise in construction we renovated our private guest suite into a beautiful fitness studio. The studio has a separate and private entrance and bathroom. We geared the space aesthetically toward the moms with plenty of interactive activities and toys so their kids love coming too!

What do you love most about what you do?

My favorite part is watching the moms’ faces when I tell them the session is about THEM. At Mommy and Me with Margaret your child will have a blast, but the emphasis is on YOU getting a great workout in. Motherhood is a blessing, but many of us feel our identity can get lost to an extent. Priorities shift and sometimes our needs end up on the back burner. My studio is a place where you can get back to yourself while including your child in the fun and spend quality time together. Plus, you don’t need to hire a babysitter to get a workout in!

What is the thing that has surprised you?

Since launching I have been surprised how many moms are coming without their kids. Their children are older and they want a private personalized workout with their friends. I love it, but it caught me by surprise! I thought the majority of my business would be from Mommy and Me sessions, but it’s been about 50/50! I know there are so many great local workout options so I make sure to give people their time and money’s worth whether they come solo or with a group, with or without kids. You will leave feeling better than when you came, I guarantee it.

What are some alternative careers you would have liked to have?

I was born to do this job. My famous line is “I can’t believe I get paid to do this”- I say it all the time. People can tell how much I love it once they experience my classes at the Rye YMCA or private training sessions at my studio. Beyond fitness, in another life I would become a midwife. I have a deep passion for all things labor and delivery related. Women through all forms of delivery are just incredible. I have never felt so fierce in my life then after birthing my three babies. I know I can do anything now.

Thank you, Margaret!
