Family Info: Husband Joe

Children: Joe (13 years old)

Samantha (Sammie) (10 years old)

Mason (5 years old)

Organization / Business:

Jackie has been a nurse at Greenwich Hospital for almost 20 years. She began working at Greenwich Hospital as a student intern in 2005. In 2006, she graduated from nursing school and accepted an RN position on Medical Oncology, where she worked through 2010; thereafter, in January 2011, she transferred to Labor and Delivery, where she remains today.

Before working on this, what was her career?

Prior to her nursing career, she spent timing assisting at a crisis shelter in Connecticut.

How did she get involved with her current work?

When Jackie’s grandfather was at Rosary Hill Nursing Home in Thornwood, although an

unfortunate time, she was very touched by how well he was cared for. Jackie decided that she wanted to help take care of others.

What have you learned in the process of working on this for Ryemarkable moms?

While working on these questions, it was a great reminder that Jackie’s career choices brought her to exactly what she was meant to do. Jackie’s career has certainly brought her full circle. Some of the Rye families that Jackie met while she lifeguarded at Manursing, babysat for, or met as a waitress at Rye Grill, she has now helped to deliver children for those same families.

What does she love most about what she does?

Jackie loves that every day at work is different. Not only is every patient a different experience, but some days Jackie is charge nurse for the Labor & Delivery floor, and other days, she is a floor nurse directly taking care of patients. Jackie takes care of patients both in the labor room and operating room, as well as antepartum patients. Overall, she loves helping people, and enjoys making each mom’s birthing experience exactly what they want it to be.

Biggest Challenge? How did she overcome?

To date, Jackie’s biggest professional challenge was Covid. More specifically, facing a global pandemic with hospital guidelines changing daily, a husband changing law firms the week of covid shutdown (and working from home), homeschooling a kindergartener and 3rd grader, and caring for a 9-month old – almost too much to handle! Jackie handled all of this by literally TAKING IT ONE DAY AT A TIME!

What is your best tip for others looking to give back to the community?

Follow you heart – anything you can give is enough. Many times, people feel that there is a certain “expectation of giving”; but truly as long as your heart is in the right place and your intentions are good and pure, that’s what matters.

Alternative careers she would have liked?

Teacher (her mom was a teacher); in college at Gettysburg, Jackie was an early education minor, and she planned on becoming an elementary school teacher.

Other fun details about Jackie:

Jackie has run 2 marathons – New York and Chicago; and in May of this year, she is running the Soul Ryeders half marathon with her husband. Her favorite books are “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle and “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse” by Charlie Mackesy. Her Favorite TV shows are “Friends,” “Schitt’s Creek,” “24,” and “LOST.”

“Life is always about quality, not quantity.” Because quality is a measure of excellence, whereas quantity is simply a countable measure of things. This mindset resonates in many aspects of Jackie’s life – from production of high-quality work to her cherished relationship with her amazing friends. One of the main times when both measurements merge is when she spends time with her family.
